HC5 - Automotive current sensors
The HC5 automotive current sensors are exceptionally well-suited for measuring both DC link current and phase current in motor control applications, particularly in automotive xEVs' traction inverters.
These sensors utilize open-loop Hall-based LEM current sensor technology, enabling them to measure the magnetic field produced by the primary current flowing through a busbar inserted into the sensor slot. They then deliver an output voltage that is proportionate to the primary current, all while ensuring galvanic isolation.
The precise assembly and calibration of a magnetic core designed by LEM, combined with a proprietary ASIC developed by LEM, result in these HC5 sensors delivering outstanding performance and accuracy, making them highly reliable for demanding motor control applications.

HC5 and its highly flexible design
In the typical configuration of inverters, which often involve a vertical arrangement of a cooling jacket, power module, and gate driver board, HC5 sensors can be conveniently mounted flat directly on the gate driver board. This positioning allows them to measure the current flowing through the busbar via the PCB, connecting the power module to the motor connector.
The round aperture of these sensors is designed to accommodate both rectangular and round busbars, providing flexibility in busbar design. Moreover, the inclusion of a sleeve underneath the sensor package, extending through the PCB, serves to isolate the busbar and ensures compliance with high voltage isolation requirements.
HC5 sensors are available in through-hole (THD) configurations.
